Anyone writing a guide to honeymoon destinations needs to first of all, have a sense of romance. Being a California native who has been happily hooked up in marital bliss for more than six years, I feel more than qualified to offer some suggestions on where to find the real ‘heat’ in California should you choose to spend your honeymoon there.
First of all, it’s important to know your ideal honeymoon, and that’s based on you and your beloved’s personality. Are you active? Do you need to do, see, be and go? Or do you enjoy the finer things in life? Is five-star the only way you fly? You may also be the kind of couple that just wants to relax after the craze of your wedding.
Maybe you are even the kind of couple that can’t wait to experience one another in a way that holds zero distractions. Any way you are paired up, California offers something for everyone.
Most couples will be panting for a relaxing, romantic setting to unwind and restart their new lives together. There are so many places to do this in California that’s it’s difficult to choose just a few, but the following are my recommendations.
The Pacific Coast Highway has many small coastal towns along its route. Famous places such as San Luis Obispo, Malibu, Monterey, Carmel
The one place you must stay, however, is the Sycamore Mineral Springs in Oceano. Private, hillside, natural hot spring tubs lend a sense of heat to your honeymoon that you won’t regret. Sycamore also boasts a five-star restaurant, a full-service spa and luxurious accommodations with fireplaces in every room as well as private hot-tubs on every patio.
The Napa and Sonoma valleys are fantastic for a wine-tasting and spa honeymoon. The area is rich with some of the best wineries in the world, as well as natural hot spring spas with ultra-glamorous accommodations. Even the night life is fun with local hang outs and popular local bands that know how to party. The region is also rich with fantastic cuisine to enjoy on your honeymoon.
The Yosemite Valley is a perfect romantic escape. Enjoy the true meaning of the word ‘awesome’ when you drive in to see El Capitan or Half Dome for the first time. The scenery is breathtaking and wildlife is rich in Yosemite. The Ahwahnee Hotel is an exclusive escape in the Yosemite National Forest, and a perfect place to forget everything but one another. Take nature walks to visit the many water falls, watch deer wander, or even catch an occasional glance of a bear or wolf. If you’re a true nature lover, you can even camp in Yosemite.
Northern California is rich with forests and hills, relaxing and gorgeous in its natural beauty.
Southern California has Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood, San Diego, and Catalina. The beaches are many but so are the people and the smog. Disneyland is fun, Hollywood is really crowded and Rodeo Drive isn’t nearly as long as it looks in the movies. However, the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach are great places in Los Angeles are to visit.
Like I stated earlier, it just depends on what you want for your honeymoon. If you’re looking for uninterrupted sensuality, go for the Sycamore Mineral Springs. You’ll thank me in the end.
