Toronto, Canada is the capital of the province of Ontario and is by far its largest city in both size and population. It is home to 25% of Canada’s total population. Toronto was first inhabited by European Settlers in the 1500’s. At the time Toronto and its surrounding area was merely a vast area of only trees and water.

Today, Toronto is a modern city both culturally and economically. Each of Canada’s main financial institutions has its international headquarters located in Toronto and several US car manufacturers have their Canadian headquarters in Toronto or in nearby Mississauga, Canada. There are many things about Toronto that may surprise visitors. From its citizens to its natural beauty it is truly a city of much splendor. Here are just a few things that make Toronto one of the most unique and welcoming cities in the world:

Diverse and Peaceful

Toronto is a thriving city. It is organized, peaceful and works very efficiently. The Toronto police force works to keep crime at a minimum. It is one of the most revered police forces in the world. The Toronto police force is known for its friendliness, politeness and dedication to keeping its city safe. 

Toronto is Canada’s largest city in both size and population. Toronto has more residents than the four Canadian Atlantic Provinces combined. It is the 5th most populous city in the world. Over 50% of Toronto’s residents are foreign-born. More than 100 languages and dialects are spoken by its residents. Culturally and spiritually Toronto’s citizens are very different. However; Toronto is one of the most peaceful, happy cities in the world. Citizens live in harmony with one another.

Toronto is geographically unique. The city has shorelines that touch four of five of the Great Lakes. It is one of Canada’s most southern cities. Ten major US cities are located further north than Toronto.

Bigger is Better in Toronto

Downtown Toronto is an engineering marvel. Everything is big in downtown Toronto. Yonge Street, one of the major thoroughfares in Toronto, is the longest street in the world. The CN tower at 533 meters tall is the largest freestanding structure in the world. And the Toronto Stock Exchange is the 7th largest in the world. 

Artistic City

Toronto is filled with museums and theatres. It is home to the third largest English speaking theatre system in the world. Only New York and London are bigger. The Art Gallery of Ontario, located in Toronto is one of the world’s largest art galleries in the world.
