Deep Fried Banana Rolls (Toron)

Toron is a very popular snack in the Philippines.  Matter of fact growing up that was the easiest snacks we can make at home.   Deep fried banana rolls are really delicious and easy to make.  It’s something that you put in the freezer as well if you don’t want to cook it all at once.  Cooking deep fried banana rolls is like cooking the eggrolls, the only difference is that we coated the outside with caramelized brown sugar.  You can control how much sugar you want to add to this snack.  Since you coated the banana with brown sugar before you wrap it, it makes it sweeter and moist inside.

The first time I made this for my husband and kids, I was unsure how they gonna react with it.  Luckily, they all like it and want more of it.  So since I didn’t cook everything I put some in the ziplock bag and freeze them.  Deep fried banana rolls (toron) can be fried frozen,  you can use your pan or deep fryer.  Now that I finally bought a deep fryer, I am in the mood to cooking snacks like this or even the eggrolls.  Owning deep fryer definitely change the way my frying look.

Deep fried banana rolls (toron) is great to carry to a lot of gathering, and a crowd pleaser.  You may surprise few people at first but once they get a hold of that crunchy wrapper and the stuffing oh they will love it.  I know my step-daughter love toron, she asked about this last time because of how delicious it was.

Ingredients
  • 9 banana sliced and peeled
  • oil for frying
  • 3 cups sticky rice, cooked
  • 1 pack egggroll wrapper
  • 1 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup brown sugar
Servings: people
Instructions
  1. In the frying pan or pot heat up some oil for frying, while wrapping the toron.
  2. Roll the sliced banana into the brown sugar, then lay on the top of the wrapper. About two to three bananas that way it's easy to roll. Seeled the end with the beaten egg and put on the plate.
  3. Once you are done wrapping all the bananas, set it asided or continue frying them until it's golden brown. Fry each roll for about two minutes on each side, then sprinkles some brown sugar so it will have time to caramelized.
  4. For the sticky rice just scoop about a tablespoon or so on the wrapper and roll it like you did with the banana, and seeled it with the egg beaten.
  5. Fry the sticky rice rolls until it's brown and then sprinkle with some brown sugar. Let the sugar caramelize. Serve warm.
