Bamboo Shoots With Sardines And Saluyot Leaves

Bamboo Shoots with Sardines and Saluyot Leaves is really delicious.  I remembered eating this growing up, saluyot leaves are very easy vegetables to grow in our farm.   My grandparents believe in eating a lot of vegetables and less on meat.  Pretty much, every day we eat vegetables and some fish.  The only time we have meat is on special occasions like birthday, wedding, and New Year.  This bamboo shoots with sardines and saluyot leaves are something that I missed eating.  So I decided to make this for my husband and kids.

The texture of the saluyot is similar to kale or turnip but it’s runny like the okra.  It’s hard to explain but I think I’m pretty close to it.  Saluyot is very good for your body, some benefits you can from it actually.  I remembered my mom and dad will make a salad out of the saluyot.   On this recipe there only a few ingredients that you gonna need, and some of these ingredients you can easily find at any grocery store.  The rest have to be bought at the Asian store.

I used two cans of spicy sardines,  a bag of the frozen bamboo shoots which you can buy at any Asian store.  About 2 cups of the saluyot leaves, then the tomatoes, onions, garlic, ginger, and the star anise.  The combination of these ingredients gives this dish such a delicious finish.   You will also need a little bit of soy sauce, salt and ground pepper to taste.  You are free to add liquid if needed, just make sure not to add a lot of liquid if you don’t want it to be very soupy.

Bamboo shoots with sardines and saluyot leaves can be pair with rice, quinoa or even pair with flour tortillas.  My husband just eats this the way it is, no rice needed since it’s loaded with flavors.   I hope you enjoy this recipe, please don’t forget to check out the other recipes I have posted on here.

    1. Saluyot leaves are really good, I can hear my parents always telling me to eat this because it’s good for your body lol. Plus, whatever we planted on our farm is what we pretty much eat daily.
